This added healing is cute, but as with every out-of-place healing effect, it does not really change the game state in any way and even if “Raidraptor – Last Strix” healed for 1000 life points, this is not really going to matter that much in most cases.
But just getting a 100/100 monster in the Battle Phase is not worth that much, so “Raidraptor – Last Strix” has the added bonus of counting the total number of Spells and Traps you control on the field as well as those you have in your graveyard and heal you for 100 life points times the number of Spell/Traps counted with this effect.
“Raidraptor – Last Strix” has a Special Summon condition that allows it to be summoned whenever a “Raidraptor” monster battles while you either have any Spell or Trap cards on the field or in the graveyard. The first card to look at is “Raidraptor – Last Strix”, one of the few Level 1 monsters in the archetype. You can only use this effect of "Raidraptor - Last Strix" once per turn. You can Tribute this card your opponent takes no battle damage this turn, also you Special Summon 1 "Raidraptor" Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck in Defense Position, but its effects are negated, also return it to the Extra Deck during the End Phase. So let’s get to it, shall we: Archetype:Īttribute/Type: Dark Winged Beast If a "Raidraptor" monster you control battles, while you have any Spell/Trap Cards on your field or in your Graveyard, during damage calculation (in either player's turn): You can Special Summon this card from your hand, then gain 100 LP for each Spell/Trap Card you control and in your Graveyard. They also have a variety of other options available, but I will talk about those when we take a closer look at the archetype itself. The overall strategy was very Aggro-oriented for the longest time, but with the newest support in Phantom Rage, I would classify the archetype as an Aggro/Control hybrid, with a mixture of burn and beatdown capable cards on the Aggro side while also featuring Counter Traps with negation effects, destruction effects against Special Summoned monsters and ATK manipulation on the Control side. As I have mentioned, “Raidraptors” are extremely keen on Xyz Summoning, featuring a wide array of effects to support this strategy by the Main Deck monsters (mostly by Special Summoning themselves), having a huge amount of in-archetypal Xyz Monsters and even working with “Rank-Up-Magic” Spells to skip the Normal Summon procedure and simply rank their Xyz Monsters into the bigger members. “Raidraptor” is an archetype that consists entirely of Dark Winged Beast monsters. Furthermore, I use a number of sources for ideas and information, so a list with links that I deem useful is attached at the end of the page and credit is given whenever I can point to a source and do so. I will try to keep this page (as well as the other ones, once they are made) up-to-date, so if any reader feels like I skipped some amazing tech choice or crucial card, just drop me a note and I will add the missing information. Many of the choices I list are certainly debatable, but no platform I know of gives a broad overview over both the archetypes and card choices, so I aimed to do just that. Having an open mind in deck building and including some creative ideas is always helpful, if only to further understand the playstyle and strategy of your deck. However, that does not mean that I am unwilling to give it my all and write an informative article about this flutter of metallic birds, so let’s give it a shot.ĭisclaimer: None of the information given by me is set in stone. I had to work a little bit with “Geargia” back in the day and genuinely think that the deck is more boring than “Nurse Burn” (which, as you might have guessed, I also find incredibly boring). I personally would not play them, since archetypes that do nothing but Xyz spamming just bore the pants off me. Therefore, the next archetype to work with is “Raidraptors”. So I decided to simply ask some of my friends to come up with suggestions and I received an answer. Picking an archetype out of over 100 to work with for a number of hours and get information on is way harder than writing the actual article itself. Since I eventually plan on doing all of the archetypes Yugioh has to offer (if I actually manage to get that far), I still have a long list in front of me.
